Available by invitation ONLY, Google have unveiled that that they are indeed ‘testing’ their new Domain Name Service.
As with existing Domain Name Registrars, consumers will be able to search for their desired Domain Name, purchase and Transfer names from another Registrar.
An Increase in new businesses setting up their online presence (both brochure and e-commerce websites) has had a knock on, positive effect in the demand for domain names.
Industry rumours that Google was a domain name registrar are nothing new but up until now have said to use this to combat spam and for mainly internal use.
Hosting is also something that the already dominant search engine Google is looking to offer on a commercial Basis.
Some are concerned that, with such a large foothold in the search engine market, Google will use this to not only upsell existing services but also to exploit the hope (without it being necessarily founded) that using Google’s domain name service will boost placement in Google search engine results pages.
